George Kimbrough was born on November 3, 1764, in Rowan County,
North Carolina. George was 17 when Joseph Williams was named as
his guardian, and 21 when he married Catherine "Caty" Young on
February 12, 1763, in Surry County. Caty who was born on
February 2, 1763, was 23. Caty was the daughter of Edward and
Lucy Young, and was named in her father's will probated June 1,
1791.

I, Marma Duke Kimbrough of Rowan County in the province of North
Carolina, being of health and perfect sense and memory do make
and ordain this my last Will and Testament and dispose of all my
real and personal estate in manner and form following,

I give and bequeath unto my son John Kimbrough the lands whereon
he now lives, called Uwarry, likewise the following negroes viz.
Matt, Dick, Bob, Reuben, Dave, Absolem, Moses, Jane, Lett, Amy,
and Lett's child called Ida, together with what of my estate
give and bequeath unto my son Orman Kimbrough the place whereon
I now live, called Shallowford together with two improvements of
land adjoining the aforesaid tract to him and his heirs forever.
Item--It is my desire that the tract of land purchased by Thomas
Bryon, lying in Deep Creek, likewise the tract of land purchased
by Thomas Turner, near the Shallow may be sold and the money
arising therefrom to be laid out in lands to the best advantage
at the direction of my good friends my executors hereinafter
mentioned, and the lands so purchased to be equally divided
amongst the following, my beloved wife, Mary Kimbrough, my son
George Kimbrough, my son Golman Kimbrough and my daughter, Anna
Kimbrough to them and their heirs forever.
Item--It is my desire likewise that the following negroes towit:
Dick,Sam, Sceaser, Hannah, Rachel, be equally divided amongst my
beloved wife, Mary Kimbrough, my son George Kimbrough, my son
Golman Kimbrough, my son Orman Kimbrough and my daughter Anna
Kimbrough by my executors, whenever they shall come of age to
them and their heirs forever.
Item--It is my desire likewise that all my just debts be paid
out of the outstanding debts due to me and the rest remaining
together with the rest of personal estate, be equally divided
amongst my beloved wife, Mary Kimbrough and her children above
mentioned. Observe that this now mentioned is not part of legacy
to my son John Kimbrough, which is first mentioned, and I do
constitute and appoint and (sic, rbk) my beloved friend Roger
Turner, Junr., and Elias Turner my Executors of this my last
Will and Testament, revoking all other wills by me formally
(sic, rbk) made.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this
twenty second day of Oct. One thousand seven hundred and sixty
eight.

Marmaduke - b. about 1710, New Kent Co., VA; d. 1769, Rowan Co.,
NC. Will dated Oct. 22, 1768, Rowan Co., NC, and proved Aug.

second Mary TURNER.

Elizabeth Carter, Widowed in 1721 with four minor children, she
married Dr. George Nicholas of Williamsburg in April 1724 and
died in 1734.
GEORGE NICHOLAS, M.D., of Lancashire, Eng., a surgeon in the
British Navy, settled in Virginia about the beginning of the
18th century and was vestryman of Williamsburg church, Bruton
Parish; m. circa 1722, Elizabeth CARTER, dau. of Robert (“King”)
CARTER of Corotoman, and widow of Major Nathaniel BURWELL.
