John BOURNE Sr.

ABT 1672 - 1721

ID Number: I58968

  • RESIDENCE: Essex Co. VA
  • BIRTH: ABT 1672, Rappahanock, Virginia
  • DEATH: 1721, Essex Co. Virginia
  • RESOURCES: See: [S1829]
Father: Andrew BOURNE "the Immigrant"
Mother: Christian

Family 1 : Elizabeth JOHNSON
  1. +Andrew BOURNE
  2.  Henry BOURNE

Notes

"John Bourne and Elizabeth resided in St. Mary's Parish, Essex Co, Virginia on 87 acres of land formerly owned by his brother-in-law Richard Johnson and which had also been owned by Charles Taliaferro and who continued to own contiguous property.

BIRTH:of the children are taken from an abstract of Will, made by John Dorman and has the name of Francis in the place where James had been shown earlier and is thought to be correct per Edgar W. Bayliff, l-27-1994.

Children:
John Jr BOURNE
Christian BOURNE
Andrew BOURNE
Sarah BOURNE
Robert BOURNE
Francis BOURNE
Henry BOURNE

Richard Darden Bourne Genealogical History Bourne Family, Frankfort, KY Historical Society Library. All supported by Newman A. Hal l documentation.

John, Jr, Will Pro. 20 June 1721 Parish of St. Mary, Essex Co.VA . will book 3, pg.258."

Sarah Bourne by tradition married John Morton s/o William Morton and Ann Batchelder, however this John Morton was born ca 1727 and his widow, Sarah, died in Woodford County, KY ca l826. This unlikly chronology makes this speculation highly uncertain. Have good information that the wife of John Morton was Sarah Hawkins. Newman A. Hall says Sarah Bourne was not married.
In Orange Co. VA. Deed Book between pages 228 and 229 a sheet inserted contains two items. The first is an assignment dated 7 Mar 1743/4 of a 156 acre lease from William Minor to Robert Bourne. The second is an item dated 20 Feb 1749/50 witness by Robert Bourn and Sarah Bourn. No evidence exists to indicate that either Robert or Sarah were married, so these signatures are for brother and sister. Robert also appears in the Orange Co tithables in 1752 and Sarah in 1755 and 1756.

In the abstract of the will made in 1933 by Stout Lillard, an error was made to include another son James. The extract of the will by Dorman, above, shows the correct information.
