Charles Canty was a member of the Masonic Order, a Royal Arch Mason. He died at age 77 of pneumonia.


From family records, Charles' date of birth is 14 July 1826, and date of death is 14 Oct 1902. These dates appear to be in a family bible, photocopied by Falvey Mae (Cox) Everitt and sent to the author in June 1997.
Charles Canty fought in the Civil War, enlisting 7 Aug 1863, and serving until the close of the war, according to the Widows Pension Application. He enlisted in Company D, First Texas Infantry, at Liberty, Texas. On February 15, 1864, he was detailed to Capt. Charles Bickley of the Artillery at Sabine.

Aka: Marvel. "Marble left his family, consisting of his father, mother, several brothers and sisters in Virginia before 1800. We find him listed on the Tax List of Inhabitants of the Natchez District in 1810 and over age 21, and on the 1810 Census of Amite County. On December 25th, 1811 in Amite County, Mississippi Territory.


On May 1, 1822, Marble Stone of Covington County, Miss. appointed Stephen P. Pool of Mecklenberg County, Virginia to act in his behalf in settling his share of Stephen Stone's Estate.


Marble Stone was a Private in Capt. Moses Collins Company, 13th Regiment of the Mississippi Territory Militia in the War of 1812. He enrolled on January 6, 1815 and was discharged on February 5, 1815.
Marble Stone listed on the Pike County, Mississippi 1816
State Census. Based on Tax Rolls, Marble Stone had relocated to Covington County by 1819, where he is also shown on the 1820 Census.
Marble Stone is not listed on Covington County, Miss. Tax Rolls after 1823.
As early as 1827 Marble Stone appears on the Real and Personal Tax Rolls of Hinds County, Mississippi as well as the 1830 Census of that county.
Marble or Marvel Stone was a farmer according to the Census records. Marble Stone died on December 15, 1832 in Hinds County, Mississippi. Probate records indicate he left a wife and six children. Only five of their six children are known."
