Still living at Beaver, Oklahoma Ter. Married 1846, Achille Murat Willis, b. October 15, 1826, still living. He resided in Rappahannock, Co., when married. He served as Captain of the Rappahannock company of cavalry in the Confederate service. Was a member of Ashby's regiment. Captain A. Murat Willis acted as aide to General Early at the first battle of Manassas, and received special mention in that officer's official report of the battle, August 1, 1861. (Rebellion Records, Volume II, p. 558.)

A wealthy planter's son, he studied law after graduating from Princeton. In the state legislature and US Senate he was an ardent supporter of sucession and defender of slavery, resigning his seat 10 Nov 1860 to aid his state.


Elected to C.S.A. Congress, he was Beauregard's A.D.C. at Ft Sumter and 1st Bull Run (Manases) and then served on the executive council of South Carolina. Appointed Davis's A.D.C. and Col. he held this position under the friend of his Senate days until appointed B.G. C.S.A. 23 Apr 1864. He was given command of the reserve forces in South Carolina.


After the War he was active in overthrowing the Reconstruction politicians. His wife wrote the delightful "Diary from Dixie".
