Agnes last name is Donnald. She may have been the mother of
James McCants, Jr. who died unmarried.
Agnes DONNALD m. 14 Jun 1770 at St. Phillip's Church by Rev.
Robert Smith.
James and Agnes must have had some difficulties because we find
in the records that Agnes filed for divorce.
WARRANT to: James McCants
These are to cite and admonish you to be and appear before me in
the Court of Ordinary on Friday the 11th day of October next
then and there to answer to such matters and things as shall be
objected against you by your wife Agnes touching your beating,
abusing, and wounding her and turning her out of doors and also
to shew (sic) cause - if any you can - why you should not be
decreed to allow to her alimony and a seperate maintenance and
support. Hereof fail not as you will answer the contrary at
your peril.
Charles Town 17 September 1771
They may have reconciled because in his will James provided for
"Agnes my dearly beloved wife, the sum of 700 pounds, use of my
house and furniture and my cleared lands during the continuance
of her widowhood. " will dated Mar 3, 1772.
