ibid "There were two or three Jeremiah Claunches living in Southwest Virginia about the same time. It has been difficult to separate and identify each of them. At this point I am speculating that "our" Jeremiah was the son of Jeremiah and Margaret Claunch who moved to Mecklinburg Co., Va. to Fincastle Co. which became Montgomery Co. in 1776. Montgomery Co. was subdivided many times and the Claunches are found in different counties as the areas were redefined. Their original lands are now in the present-day Carrol Co., Va."

""Stuart"s "Royalty for Commoners" (144:32). Sire de Courtenay in the Gatinais and of Chateau Renard; built the castle at Courtenay, 1010.
From a posting to GEN-MEDIEVAL on 26 Apr 1999 by Gilbert Baumgartner citing Maurice Houy's book, "Les Courtenay travers l'histoire", comes the following: Hugh Capet's father had placed the important city of Sens under the control of several ambitious counts - Fromont I, Renard the Old, Fremont II, & Renard the Bad. These counts built fortresses - Montereau, at the confluence of the Seine into the Yonne, Joigny on the Yonne, and Chateaurenard on the Ouanne. One presumes that Athon, who was connected with Chateaurenard's Seigniory and founded in about the year 1000 the castle of Courtenay, was a descendant of Renard the Second. Athon formed an alliance with GEOFFREY FERROLES (RIN 1377), count ot the Gatinais and rendered him such services that this one gave him Chateaurenard, Charny and Champignelles. He lived till about 1060. His son married GEOFFREY's daughter."

This Charles Jr. also bought land in Charlotte Co., Va in 1772. He did not migrate to Washington Co Ky until about 1799 following his older brother Anthony."
