From an 1815 deed in Union County, SC: Robert Martin and his
wife Elizabeth sold land. Still unknown is where and when they
married and where did they go in 1815 as no further record of
Robert Martin, Sr. has been found in Union County.
Exec of Mother, Jane McCants Lindsay's will, who d. 1813, proved
1814.
Pre-nuptial contract between William Holland and Elizabeth
Lindsay, dted 13 Dec 1824, wherein Elizabeth had 260 acres of
land in Union Dist. on a small branch of the Enoree River, where
she now lives; and a Negro man NOCK, age 40, a woman Juna and
her 4 children, horses, stock, etc.
Alexander Ray and John Norman were exors. for Elizabeth. signed
by William Holland, Elizabeth Lindsey, John Norman and Alexander
Ray.
wit: John Beard and Joseph Goswick(?).
(Union Co. SC Deed Book S, p. 125).
This the negro KNOCK, and 200 acres of land Jane McCants Lindsay
left to her dau in her will of 1814.
In 1837 Elizabeth is listed as the widow of Charles Humphries,
Sr. His will Holcomb, Union Co. Will Abstracts 1787-1849, p.
138, cites Will Bk. Transcript B:238-240.
Charles Humphries in his will of 1837 names his wife Elizabeth
and that she should have all her own property that she had when
they were married.
Elizabeth Humphries in her will of 1845, codicil 1848, proved
1849, first named legatee, nephew Robt Martin, $100. Her niece
Sarah Wilburn is to take the negro man Nock. [named in Jane
Lindsay's will]. Legacies to niece Jane Ray, wife of Carry Ray,
and to Jane Weeks, wife of Elijah Weeks. Other people
mentioned, but no Janet named. (Holcomb, p.160, citing Union
Wills B:422-426.) Elizabeth was definitely the daughter of Jane
Lindsay.
And again in 1845 & 1848: Elizabeth Humphries' will, proved 1849
mentions her Negro man NOCK; also her nephew Robert Martin.
