The Benjamin Leavell's had moved to Culpeper County before October 16, 1797 when Jas Sims bought 200 Acres in Culp " to corner of Benjamin Leavells" from Daniel Field & wf Anna.Culpeper County, Va DB T- pg. 223.


1810 Census Culpeper County Virginia : Benjamin Leavell 1 M 45+; 1 M& 1 F 16-26. Benjamin Leavell was a witness to a will of William Simms' father James Sims February 18, 1802. He was a neighbor, as Daniel Field, etc. sold to James Sims 233 Acres 1797 with one boundary "corner Benj. Leavell & James Sims."Culpeper County, Va WB D- pg 389 & DB T- pg 223


William Sims & wf Mary of Madison County Va sold to Benj. Leavel of Culpeper, consid $1000, land in Madison, 128 Acres, it being" part of tract formerly held by James Simms dec'd & by his last will & testament given to his son William Simms & bounded: Beg.two box oak saplins on Bloodworths road & corner for William Simms & Chas Major...south to pointers & corner with Major in John Roberts line...with his line to point S bank of Crooked run & corner with Roberts...corner to Edward Simms, with another of his lines to bloodworth road...Wit: Daniel James, Daniel Field, Edward Leavell. April 22, 1807. Both signed.Madison County Va. DB 4- pg 335.


Benjamin Leavell the same day, April 22, 1807, of Culp Co., Va made adeed of gift "consid. of natural love & affection which I bear to my daughter Mary Simms (who intermarried with William Simms, of the county of Madison & state foresaid) as well as for the further sum of six shillings... Madison County, Va DB 4- pg337.


Although the 1810 Censu of Madison County Va shows William with eight children (assuming all entries are his children), the name of only one is known with certainty, that is Betsy who married Edward Sherrod Tucker. It is to be noted that in this connection with Benjamin Leavell Senr & wf Milley of Culpeper sold three tracts of land October 1813 to Philip Slaughter, William Simms & wf Mary of Madison sold to John Miller (who married Elizabeth Simms, dau of George, in 1809) September 19, 1814 171 Acres S side Crooked run; & Charles Major (b-i-l of Wm Simms) of Madison sold land to John Tucker of Culpeper August 1812, with Wm Simms, Edward Tucker, Daniel Brown & Wm Wallis, wits. Culpeper County, Va DB GG- pg 47; Madison Co., Va DB 5-pg 411; Culpeper Co., Va DB Ff- pg 264.


Benjamin Leavell lived in Spotsylvinia,& Culpeper Co.'s Va. & moved to Christian Co., Kentucky (now Todd Co. ) in 1809 with two of his sons, Ben Jr. & Lewis & named his home " Oak Grove" after his old place in Virginia. He and his sons founded the town of Trenton, Kentucky, Info from: Edward Tucker of Virigina & Missouri by Pauline Drury
