Nathaniel Barksdale and Dorthy Woodhull had a child named William in about 1633 in Worchestire, England.
William then had a son also named William about 1675 in charlotte Co. VA

This William married a Sallie (Sarah) Collier and they gave birth to the next Nathaniel Barksdale, about 1723 in Hanover, VA.

Nathaniel married Mourning Dickerson and they gave birth to Major Peter Barksdale. This is a title of major and not a given name. He was born August 4, 1760 in Prince Edward, VA. He died on Jan.15, 1826
Peter married Elizabeth Armistead Watlington, who was from the Gloucester, VA area and she died in Halifax, Co. They gave birth to Elisha Barksdale, who would later be known as Col. He was born on May 8, 1793 in Prince Edward.
Elisha married Judith Armistead on Oct. 22, 1835. He died in Halifax Co. on June 16, 1850. They had only one child, Armistead, who was born on March 7, 1841, and would later serve in the Virginia Light Infantry as a 2nd Leiutenant, in the Civil war.
Armistead married Ella Randolph Sydnor and they had 8 children.
Minnie Clifton, Herbert, Evelyn, Emma, Arthur Sydnor, Gertrude, Ella Sydnor, Armistead Randolph.

Our line of the Barksdale side ends here. Minnie Clifton Barksdale was my husbands great grandmother. She married Robert Dudley Lacy.
Hope this helps you. I can go a little further back in history if you would like, but there is not much there except names and they are repeat family names.

Asa HEATHCOCK C.S.A.

22 Jul 1837 - 3 Sep 1908

ID Number: I87615

  • RESIDENCE: Madison Co. AL and Wilson Co. TX
  • OCCUPATION: CSA 24th Regimental Texas Cav.
  • BIRTH: 22 Jul 1837, New Market, Madison Co. Alabama
  • DEATH: 3 Sep 1908, Wilson Co.Texas
  • BURIAL: Heathcock plot in the Stockdale cemetery.
  • RESOURCES: See: [S3241]
Father: Alfred (Hathcock) HEATHCOCK
Mother: Elizabeth COOK

Family 1 : Elizabeth CALLIHAM
  1.  Asie Louise HEATHCOCK

Notes

Alfred's second son Asa first appears in the Texas records on November 14, 1860 when he married Elizabeth Callihan in Bee County. He enlisted in the Confederate Army 13 February 1862 at Yorktown and served under Captain Cupples in the 24th Regimental Texas Cavalry until his capture at Fort Hindman in Arkansas on 11 January 1863. He was paroled 31 January 1863. After the end of the war, Asa and his family appear to have lived in Atascosa County until they moved to Wilson County in the early 1870s.

Asa and his wife Betty are buried in the Heathcock plot in the Stockdale cemetery. Asa's stone bears the inscription: Asa Heathcock; 22 July 1837-3 September 1908; Pvt. 24 Regt Texas Cav; Civil War. His wife's stone is inscribed: Betty C. Heathcock, 1846-1911. Also buried in this family plot are Clifford Heathcock, 10 April 1914-29 November 1937; son William Edward Heathcock, 25 October 1869-8 July 1946; and daughter-in-law Mary A. Heathcock, 25 June 1874-3 April 1939; and a J. P. Bartlett, Pvt Co B 23 Regt Texas Cavalry, Confederate States Army. The latter individual is believed to have been Mary A. Heathcock's brother. Clifford Heathcock was killed in a gunfight with Deputy Sheriff C. F. Fuller. The fight resulted from a disagreement over a grand jury investigation into the burning of some buildings in Sutherland Springs.

Asa's wife, Mrs. Bettie Heathcock, filed a Widow's Application for Pension after Asa's death on 3 September 1908. Her application essentially verifies his service record. In the application, reference is made to File No. 7388, presumably Asa's pension application file. At the time of the Widow's application, Mrs. Heathcock lived at 202 Sharer Street, San Antonio.
