at his home near Friendly, Feb 24 1892. Funeral services were
held at Fairview on Thursday by Rev. W.G.Smith. The G.A.R. Post
No.666, Dept of Ohio conducted rituals. He was twice married
and leaves a widow and six children"

of Friendly, County of Tyler and State of West Virginia well
known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who be
duly sworn, declares in relation to aforesaid case as follows:
Fanny Alvis, the child of J.H. Alvis has not lived with me since
the summer of
1884. I have no custody over her. She was with her sister Mary
J. Dopler of East Liverpool. In last November, her father
informed me that she was born in November 1877.".....signed Anna

Army Medical Inspector's Certificate of Disability for
Discharge: "Joseph H. Alvis a Private of Captain Barr's Company
C of the 7th Regiment of Virginia was enlisted by Captain Smith
of the 7th Regiment of August at Sistersville on the 7th day of
August 1861 to serve three years; he was born in Albemarle Co in
the State of Virginia is twenty-one years of age, five feet 7
inches high light complexion hazel eyes, brown hair and by
occupation when enlisted a farmer. During the last two months
said soldier has been unfit for duty ___ days.

Alvis of Captain Barr's Company and find him incapable of
performing the duties of a soldier because of:
Dilation of left ventricle, Venodinale[?] action of heart.

On this 30th day of July, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and
ninety-personally
appeard before me a Notary Public within and for the county and
State aforesaid, Joseph H. Alvis aged 50 years a resident of the
Town of Friendy county of Tyler, State of West Va, who being
duly sworn according to law, declares that he is is the
identical Joseph H. Alvis who was enrolled on the 7th day of
August, 1861 in Co C 7th Regt West Va Vol Infantry, in the
service of the United States, in the War of the Rebellionm and
served at least ninety days, and was honorably discharged at
orwood [sic] Hospital, Dist Columbia on the -- day of February
1863. That he is TOTALLY unable to earn a support by manual
labor by reason of disease of urinary organs, heart disease,
liver complaint and disease of stomach. That said disabilities
are not due to his vicious habits and are to the best of his
knowledge and belief of a
permanent character. That he has ___ applied for pension under
application No. [
not readale]. That he is a pensioner under Certificate No
450103. That he makes
this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the penion
roll of the United States under provisions of the Act of June
27, 1890.
He hereby appoints himself of Friendly, State of West Va, his
true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim and receive a
fee of $_===_. That his post-office address is Friendly Tyler
county of state of West Va.

In April 1264 he was captured at Northampton with his father &
was imprisoned in Windsor Castle. He fought at the Battle of
Evesham for Simon de Montfort, 4 Aug. 1265, but was wounded &
taken prisoner. He was later pardoned by King Henry III, &
restored to his lands. He went on a pilgrimage to Santiago in
1272 & again in 1275. In Nov 1276 he was one of the magnates at
a council at Westminster concerned with Welsh affairs.
