"(1) Smetimes after 1650 Lawrence arrived in Northumberland
Co.Virginia with a party of fourteen people, including his wife
Dorothy, four sons and nine servants. He bought several tracts
of land in Wicomico Parish and established an estate called
"Guarding Point" Later changed to "Garden Point". The home was
probably a very substaqntial one for the time and place as
a"great room" is mentioned in Lawrence's will.
(2) "Guarding Point" was used as a lookout during Bacon's
Rebellion. "Dameron's Marsh" still exests as a relict of that
plantation."
