Henry "Old Harry" MILLER of Mossy Creek

13 Jun 1735 - ____

ID Number: I98278

  • OCCUPATION: founded Miller's Iron Works
  • RESIDENCE: Augusta Co. VA
  • BIRTH: 13 Jun 1735
  • RESOURCES: See: notes [S3225]
Father: MILLER

Family 1 :
  1.  Nancy MILLER

Notes

He founded "Miller's Iron Works"; following his death, his administrators on September 6, 1911 advertised a sale of the furnace and forge as well as 8000 acres of land, "supposed to be the most valuable property of its kind in Virginia."

Joseph A. Waddell, "Annals of Augusta County, Virginia", William Ellis Jones, 1886, p. 224

In the "Boston Transcript", January 6, 1915, #4456, which printed an inquiry inferring that "Harry Miller" may have been the "Henry Miller" who was a
cousin or uncle of Daniel Boone, who accompanied the latter on his first trip into Kentucky.

Both the letter of Dr. William Dold, and the "Boston Transcript" inquiry cited above state that Anna Cameron Dold's mother was a sister of Henry Miller of Mossy Creek. Miller was born on June 13, 1735 and was for some time associated with Mark
Bird (or "Byrd") in the iron furnace business in Pennsylvania.
