Rebecca Ann LAMAR

7 Oct 1827 - 29 Jul 1843

ID Number: I69570

  • RESIDENCE: Lumpkin, Stewart Co, GA
  • BIRTH: 7 Oct 1827, Columbus, Muscogee Co. Georgia
  • DEATH: 29 Jul 1843, Macon, Bibb Co. Georgia [346153]
  • BURIAL: Rose Hill Cemetery, Macon, Bibb Co. Georgia
  • RESOURCES: See: [S605]
Father: Mirabeau Buonaparte LAMAR 3Pres. Republic of Texas
Mother: Tabitha Burnwell JORDAN

Notes

"Rebecca Ann Lamar, dau. of Mirabeau Bonaparte Lamar & Tabitha Jordan, lived in Lumpkin, Stewart Co, GA part of the time after her mother's d. 22 July 1838. Just before Mirabeau's inauguration as President of the Republic of Texas, Rebecca Ann accompanied her uncle and aunt, John S. and Amelia Lamar RANDLE from Lumpkin to Texas, visiting for two months, before making the 23 day return trip."

""Rebecca Ann LAMAR, daughter and only child of Mirabeau, died 29 July 1843" Marr and Obits from Macon Messenger, 1818-1865, Willard R. Rocker, p. 82

Another source says she died in Milledgeville.

Tombstone says:

"She was heavens own / (err?) death translated / her to the skies. / The seeds of Christian / Piety had found a genial / soil in her young heart / and their blessed fruit was a Christian's sweet / assured happiness in her last hours.

On the East side Mirabeau composed to his child:

"ADIEU / Dear Rebecca Ann / earth mourns thee / whilst heaven greets / thee. Our hearts must / ever sadden when / we think of thee / thou hast died / so young, so lovely / so full of fairest promise."
