"WiIIiam, m. Mildred, dau. of Charles Taliaferro in
Spottsylvania Co. in 1729, and d. in Westmoreland in 1749, date
of will. He is probably the grantee in a patent, June 20, 1749,
for 190 acres of land in Westmoreland Co. Names son William, who
m. Winifred------. Charles Strother, who died at Charleston, SC,
in 1773, and was buried in St. Michael's Churchyard, leaving
sons George and William, is thought to be a son of William.
George Strother was a Lieut. in Marion's Brigade, 1781. Both he
and William settled in the old Cheraw District, Chesterfield Co,
SC (Owen, William Strother of VA, 1898, p. 7).
"A William Strother bought 266 acres on 26 May 1727 in what
would become Fauquier Co, VA (Groome, Fauquier During the
Proprietorship, 1989, p. 104). This William of Westmoreland and
his cousin, William of Stafford, are the only ones known at the
time that could have made the purchase. The former was married
in Spotsylvania two years later and seems the more likely
candidate as the latter was living at "Ferry Farm" with his
family at the time. As seen from above only one son, William, of
William of Westmoreland is certain with Charles as a good
possibility. George is unknown but James does appear in Fauquier
records as early as 1766 and so he is so listed as another son."
