In the name of God Amen. I Jefse Bethea of Marlborough
District and State of South Carolina, planter being weak of
body, but of sound and disposing mind, memory & understanding
praised be God for same, do make and ordain this my last will
and Testament, first, I recommend my soul into the hands of God
who gave it, nothing doubting but at the General resurrection I
shall receive the same again through his Mighty power. My body
I recommend to the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner
at the discretion of my Executors and Executrix, And as to the
worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to
blefs me in this life, I give devise & dispose of the same in
the manner and form following (that is to say) First, my will
is that all my Just Debts should be fully paid out of my estate
by my Executors,
my children by my first wife, David, Jefse, and Simeon, I give,
as follows, to David one negro man named Limbrick, a tract of
land Stock & household furniture; to Jefse Bethea a Negroe man
named Dave, Stock and household furniture, & a tract of land and
a Negroe girl Dinah, to my son Simeon, I have given one Negroe
boy Moses & a Negroe Girl Nan a Waggon and other property
household furniture & etc
to Betty Easterling a Negroe Boy Abram, Stock and household
furniture,
to my daughter Anne, I have given a negroe boy Aaron & household
furniture,
To my daughter Sally I gave a negroe boy Sam and a portion of
household furniture,
to my daughter Kiddy I gave a negroe boy Cudjo and a portion of
household furniture which I conceive to be their full portion of
my estate, to them and their heirs forever.
I lend to my beloved wife Elizabeth Bethea all the property I
now pofsefs or that I may pofsefs at the time of my decease both
real and personal, during the term of her natural life,
I give to my well beloved son Tristram Bethea at the time of my
wifes decease, all that part of my land Joining the land I gave
to my son Jefse Bethea deceased by the publick post road, all
between Said Road and a dividing line acrofs my land
beginning at the mouth of a small drean which empties into the
branch I now live on at or near against the lower end of my now
home plantation & running up Sd drain to the head then still on
with a strait line of marked trees quite acrofs all my lands,
Also my negroe boy named George to him and his heirs forever.
I give and bequeath to my beloved son Jefse Bethea all the other
and remaining part of my lands includeing the plantation whereon
I now live and my Negroe Girl Ginny at my wifes decease to him &
his heirs forever, My negroe man Cudjo and my negroe woman
Patty with all the other my personal estate, I give and
Bequeath to my said two sons Tristram & Jefse to be equally
divided between them at the time of my wifes decease, and if
either of them should happen to die before arriveing to the age
of twenty one years or without ifsue lawfully begotten, then the
surviveing one to have all the estate hereby given to both, both
/real/ and personal to him and to his heirs forever. and if it
should so happen that both my said sons Tristram and Jefse
should die before arriveing to the age of twenty one or having
lawful ifsue then in that case I give and bequeath to all my
first wifes and last wifes Children all my
personal estate to be equally divided amongst them share and
share alike,
the children of any deceased brother or sister of them takeing
amongst them the share alloted to their ancestor to them and
their heirs forever after my wifes decease. And if it should so
happen as aforesaid that both my two sons Tristram and Jefse
should die as aforesaid beforeing arriving to lawful age or
haveing lawful ifsue, then and in that case, I give and bequeath
to all my first wifes children all my land, to be equally
divided amongst them all, share and share alike, the children of
any deceased brother or sister of them, takeing amongst them the
share alloted to their parent or ancestor after my wifes
decease;
And I do hereby nominate and appoint my dearly beloved wife
Elizabeth Bethea Executrix and my loved son David Bethea and my
trusty friend Moses Parker of this District my Executors of this
my last Will and Testament, hereby revokeing and makeing void
all former wills and Testaments at any time heretofore made by
me, and do declare this to be my last will and Testament, In
Witnefs Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal
this thirieth day of September in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and nine and in the 34th year of the
Independence of America.
