Daniel P. YORK C.S.A.
1828 - ____
ID Number: I104557
OCCUPATION : CSA 16th TN Regt. 1862-1865
RESIDENCE : KY and 1831 Madison and Carroll Co. TN
BIRTH : 1828, Kentucky
RESOURCES : See: Bio notes
[S3782]
Father: James G. YORK
Mother: Elizabeth PARKER
Family 1
: Sarah E. BARHAM
MARRIAGE : 1 Jan 1851, Carroll Co. Tennessee
James R. YORK
Notes
Daniel P. York - Daniel P. York, a prominent citizen of this
city, was born in Kentucky, in 1828, and is the son of James and
Elizabeth (Parker) York. The parents were natives of Kentucky,
and came to Tennessee in 1831, bringing our subject with them.
The father was a farmer and stock raiser by occupation, and was
very prosperous in life, and to himself and wife were born three
daughters and one son. He was in the war of 1812. The father
died in 1836, his wife preceding him about three years. Our
subject was reared to the age of sixteen on a farm, when he
engaged as clerk in a dry goods and grocery store at Medon, in
this county, remaining until the partnership expired, then
clerked for Dr. Bates in Bolivar, for a short time, after which
he returned to this city, and later accepted a position with
Price & Hess, peddling clocks and dry goods in the northern
portion of this State, remaining with them about five years. On
the 1st of January, 1851, he was united in marriage to Miss
Sarah E. Barham, of Carroll County, this State, and daughter of
Thos. and Sarah Barham. She was born in this State in 1830, and
is the mother of one child named James R. Immediately after
marriage he began farming in Carroll County, and remained until
1862, when he enlisted in the Confederate service, in the
Sixteenth Tennessee Regiment, remaining with them through the
entire war. He received two flesh wounds - one while at
Harrisburg, and one at the battle of Franklin. After the war he
returned to Carroll County and remained two years, then came to
this city and engaged in the butchering and market business. A
few months since he sold out, and directs his attention to
buying and shipping stock. He and wife and son are members of
the First Methodist Church. He is a Master Mason, and in
politics he is strictly Democratic.
