c.664 - King Oswiu of Northumbria removes his son, King
Ealhfrith, from his throne in Deira. The Bernician throne
controls all of Northumbria.
678 - St. Wilfred, Bishop of York, is at the height of his power
and owns vast estates throughout Northumbria. Unhappy at
Wilfred's interference in his marriage, King Ecgfrith of
Northumbria conspires with Archbishop Theodore of Canterbury to
have him banished from Northumbria. The Bishopric is divided
between Abbot (& Saint) Eata of Lindisfarne who is given
Hexham, and Bosa, a monk of Whitby, who is given York. Eadhaed
is given Lindsey. Wilfred travels to Rome to protest.
