"Jacob and Sarah first settled in Shelby County, KY. After
twenty years there they moved to Frankfort, KY where he engaged
in the mercantile business. From there they moved to Vermillion
County Indiana near the town of Clinton. About twenty years
later when his father Lewis became too ill to maintain his
stewardship of his farm and tannery, Jacob and Sarah moved back
to "Old Mansion" and took up the reins.
On 9 May 1837, Jacob was a passenger on the steamer "Ben
Sherrod" that was captained by his son Christopher Greenup
Castleman. While the steamer was enroute from New Orleans, LA to
Louisville, KY the boiler exploded. He was among the casualties
killed in the explosion."

The Burnt Church got its name from having been burned so often,
first by Yemassee Indians, then by the British during the
Revolution. It is located about 10 miles south of Walterboro,
SC. Just the ruins were standing until the last wall fell when
Hurricane 'Gracie" destroyed it in 1959. It is an old Episcopal
Chapel Established in 1704 and called "The Pon Pon Chapel of
Ease". Restoration was completed by the Colleton Co. Hist. Soc.
in 1976.
