"They left Foster, RI in the Autumn of 1797, and settled in Edmeston, Otsego Co.NY between the Wharton Creek and the Unadilla River, west of Edmeston Centre. where they dwelt until the year 1820, when they removed to the western part of the town of New Berlin, Chenango Co., where he died. Aug. 20, 1824, and she Jan. 11, 1844".

Moses Echols [838.5.1] married Elizabeth Wynne. “Betsy’s” brother Thomas Wynne married Moses’s sister Mary Echols.


In 1782 Halifax County listed Moses Echols head of a family of twelve with eight slaves. Three years, thirteen were in his family. Moses was a qualified voter in Halifax County in 1808.



Betsy and Thomas Wynne were the children of Col. William Wynne. They named Winns Creek of the Dan River and Wynnes Falls at Danville for Col. William Wynne. Col. Wynne served on the Vestry of Antrim Parish with Richard Echols, John Owen and John Gillintine. Col. Wynne died in Pittsylvania County (will dated 8 Oct. 1777 , recorded 26 Nov. 1778).


Moses Echols served in the Lynchburg Rifles, 4th Regiment, during the War of 1812.
