The Maryland Convention on January 6, 1776, by ballot elected
him Brigadier-General in command of all the militia of the Lower
Districton the Western Shore. In July 1776 he reported to the
Council that the fleet under Lord Dunmore had appeared at the
mouth of the Potomac..." After the so-called Lord Dunsmore's War
he resigned his commission on August 1, 1776, and resumed his
position in the state legislature.
In his will he directed that his slaves were to be trained
inuseful trades and freed at age 21."
The Maryland Dents Page: p 48 and 50.
Elected Brigadier General of the Flying Camp, Maryland Militia
on January 6, 1776. Resigned August 1, 1776. In 1785 conveyed to
his son George "Clarke's Inheritance", lying on the east side of
the road leading from Port Tobacco to Pomonkey-500acres,
"Clarke's Purchase"-300 acres, "Dent's Level"- 280 acres.
