Mother: Martha Ann MONZINGO |
John Edwin and his family moved to Caridan in Mills County,
Texas where he supported his family through farming. John Edwin
and Christina became the parents of 13 children, the youngest
born January 10, 1882 and the last on February 05, 1909. Their
fifth child was Annie Idella Rosella "Katy" Barrington, born
August 06, 1889. Katy married Voll Beckner Pennington and they
moved to Eastland County, Texas. During the flu epidemic in
early 1920 Annie became ill with the flu while pregnant and died
on February 03, 1920. Her father John Edwin attended the funeral
and also developed the flu that had taken his daughter’s life,
ten days later, on February 15, 1920, John Edwin Barrington
died.
At the time of John Edwin’s death in 1920 all but three of their
thirteen children had married and or moved away. Those remaining
at home were the three youngest, John Edgar “Eddie”, Cora and
Willie Belle. However, they were far from being alone.
Christina’s third son, William Jesse, along with his wife and
three children also were living with them, along with
Christina’s daughter, Nova Ola Howard and her three children.
Nova had been married to Oscar Newton Howard who died July 23,
1916, leaving her widowed with three children. Christina died on
May 02, 1928 and after her death William Jesse moved his family
to the Ralls area of Crosby County, Texas. Nova Ola remarried in
1930 to John Granville Neal and they moved to San Angelo in Tom
Green County, Texas. Eddie had married on December 27, 1922 and
moved away and Christina’s youngest, Willie Belle married
December 21, 1929 and Cora on October 25, 1930.
John Edwin Barrington and his wife Christina are buried at the
Mount Olive Cemetery in Mount Olive, Mills County, Texas.
From: "Shirley Erickson"
John Edwin and Christinia Angenline [Whiteley] Barrington's 5th
child's name was Annie Idella Katie Rosella Barrington. They
called her Annie. Annie married a Voll Beckner Pennington making
her Annie Idella Katie Rosella Barrington Pennington. She was my
grandfather's mother. He loved her dearly even though he was
still very young when she died. My mother, my daughter, my
oldest grandaughter and I are all named for her. I have the last
letter John Edwin ever wrote and it was on the subject of her
illness and the fact that it did not "look good". He was with
her when she died; not just at the funeral. Also, please note
the extra "i" in Christinia's name. This is how it was spelled
on her tombstone. I would very much like to see the sources on
all your writings.
Many regards,
Shirley Erickson

Munro's Salute, a tune composed by the blind piper, Iain dall
Mackay of Gairloch. Iain Dall was related by marriage to Munro
of Foulis Castle, Ferrondonald. Iain's patron in the years
1697-1720 was Sir Robert Munro, 23rd Chief who, like Iain Dall,
was blind. It is thought that many of Iain Dall's 24
piobaireachd were composed under Munro's patronage.
Unfortunately, only a dozen of Iain Dall's piobaireachd have
been preserved. The tune is a classic salute that pays a
compliment to one who is both a Chief and patron.
