David Castleman purchased a portion of "Cabell's Dale" from his
brothers-in-law, and after marriage with Virginia Harrison, he
bought 600 acres on North Elkhorn from members of her family
which he held until shortly before his death 23 May 1852. The
property, a splendid farm was known as "Castleton" and remained
a property of over 2000 acres, undivided and still famous until
around the year 2000. It was the second largest breeding farm
for saddlebred horses in the world.
David and Virginia had 14 children, three of whom, Mary,
Margaret, and Sue died as infants. I have the names and
marriages of these children if you are interested. There is a
photograph of Virginia (Harrison) Castleman in the book "The
Cabells and Their Kin" by Alexander Brown, which I have in my
