Ltr Mitta Belle to Juanita Purl, dated Sep 2, 1964, Dallas, TX 75206: "My sister Bessie May Van Horn was the one who collected the information. I sent cousin Bessie all I had and all I have to date. I looked through my mother's genealogy to see if she had anything else about my father's family-there was not.
My mothers name was Martha Eleanora Speegle (nee BIBLE). there are a lot of her relatives in Tenn, the Cafelts, Scott, Tates? - we traced through the story that my mothers grandma & boy Philip were stolen by the Indians. The little boy (cripled) died - Eleanora Bible escaped 10 mo. later - each generation has carried the name Eleanora since. My sister Mattie Robinson are all that are left in our big family of 6 girls & 6 boys. All lived to be grown with family except Annie, May, Mattie, DeValson had no children - all belonged to Baptist Church.

I aim to file your letter with the others and will be glad to share anything else to comes to hand.
With much love, Mitta Bell (nee Purle) Heafer."

She wrote 16 Jun 1965: "I was named Mitta for my mothers sister Belle & my fathers sister."

Henry Carter Purl's sister Sarah Belle Purl, aka "Belle Speegle", married George Washington aka "General" Speegle, brother of Henry's wife, Martha Eleanora Speegle. They had a sister named Eva Armitta Speegle. Mitta Belle Purl was named after her two aunts, but went by "Mittie".
