"Maurice Chaume, in Table 4 of v.4 of "Les origines du duche de
Bourgogne" (Dijon, 1925-31), calls him Gui, 782, 796, "unus de
stirpe Wernarhii", and has him as son of LEUTWINUS [same as
Stuart's LUITWIN], and brother of ROTROU and of the unnamed
tentative wife of GARNIER. Chaume, however, does not show
LAMBERT, COUNT OF HORNBACH, as his son. [He has Gui's nephew,
NANTIER I (RIN 6655*) as LAMBERT'S father."

From William and Mary Quarterly - Page 193-no date.
Cooper-Fitzgerald "Katherine Fitzgerald was the only child of
Sir Edmund Fitzgerald, Knight of Glyn, Dublin, Ireland and heir
to her father's vast estate. Her paternal uncle, desirous of
becoming the heir at his brother's death, had her kidnapped on
the way to school, and according to tradition, was given to a
sea captain to drown at sea, but his heart failed him and he
brought her to America to be adopted by the Cooper family. She
was at this time only 10 or 12 years old. At the age of sixteen
she was married to the son in the family-John Cooper. She
brought with her to Virginia her Bible which is now in the
possession of the Pagett family in the west, her doll which was
stolen from a descendent in Ohio which was stolen some years
ago; and her lace frame or loom which is said to be in
possession of descenents now living in Texas. Decendents in
Texas also have a very fine oil painting of Lady Katherine
Fitzgerald Cooper.

Mother: Daughter of Jacob MILES |
"The Census of 1800 lists James Graves as being the head of a
household consisting of his wife and 6 slaves.
The Census of 1810 lists James Graves as being the head of a
household consisting of 3 white males less than 10-years old, 1
female less than 10 years old, himself and his wife and 24
slaves.
The Census of 1820 lists James Graves as being the head of a
household consisting of 8 white males (including himself), 3
white females(including his wife) and 24 slaves.
James Graves appears in the Caswell county court minutes a
number of times in connection with his appointment as the
guardian for his minor half brothers, Lewis and Major, following
the death of their father in about 1798, and the death of the
half brothers' mother, Hannah Simmons Graves, in about 1803.
James posted bonds for his faithful service as a guardian and
custodian of his brothers' estates inherited from both their
father and mother. Each bond (the originals of which are now in
Raleigh in the State Archives) are signed by James Graves by his
mark "x" indicating that James was not literate. This seems
somewhat strange since his son, General Thomas W. Graves, was
for many years a superintendent of schools, register of deeds
and the clerk of Superior Court for Caswell County. All of
these positions would have required TWG to have been highly
literate.
From the foregoing records, it appears that James Graves had
fallen on very hard times by 1822 and was forced to convey all
his assets to his sureties in an effort to protect those
sureties from losses from their guarantees of his debts. Since
some of the sureties conveyed their own assets to satisfy James'
debts, his assets were not sufficient to cover his debts. This
record explains why there is no administration of his estate in
Caswell County. He had no assets to administer. Family records
indicate that he died in Newton Co., Georgia in 1826. No doubt
he had gone there looking to build a new life, but by 1822, he
was already 50 years old, too late to begin again at the very
hard task of curving out farm land from the forests of Georgia."

James Graves; To: [email protected]
Dear Josephine and/or Becky: The information you have posted
about "James Graves" is not correct. I am a descendant of James
through his son, Thomas Williams Graves. I have been
researching this line for more than 35 years and am confident
that the James Graves who was the father of Thomas Williams
Graves was the son of Thomas Graves who died in Caswell Co., NC
in the spring of 1799. This Thomas Graves was the son of John
Graves and probably his first of three wives (her identity is
unknown at this time). Isabella Lea was probably John's third
wife. James Graves' mother's name is also unknown, although we
know she was a daughter of Jacob Miles who died in Caswell in
1804 and named some of Thomas' children as his grandchildren.
If you are interested in learning more about James Graves'
line, I'll be glad to share information. Will Graves
