Mother: Eliza J. PULLIAM |
John Pendleton, the father of Chesley T., was a native of the
Old Dominion, born in 1795; came to Kentucky in 1819; married
Polly M. Estes in 1821. He was engaged in agricultural
pursuits, and at his death in 1834 left a fine property which is
inherited by his children. Polly (Estes) Pendleton was of
English descent, and a daughter of Peter Estes, of Adair (now
Metcalfe) County, Ky.
John A. Pendleton received a good education in early life, and
is possessed of fine business abilities. He remained on the
home farm until his marriage with Susanna C. Woodward, on the
23rd of October, 1866, being the twenty-third anniversary of his
birth. Since that time he has been engaged in agricultural
pursuits in connection with the milling business, which he
carries on to some extent. His farm of 420 acres is well
improved and well kept, and yields good profits.
Mr. Pendleton served four years, from 1878 to 1882, as tax
assessor of Metcalfe County, in which office he gave general
satisfaction, and was very popular with his constituents. In
politics he is a Democrat, and takes an interest in the
political issues of the day. He and wife are members of the
Baptist Church. They are the parents of two daughters: Mary V.
and Evalina, the latter deceased.
Mr. Pendleton is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and is a
Master Mason in Beech Grove Lodge, No. 399. His influence is
extended to the temperance cause, and as a public-spirited
citizen and man of strict business principles he does much for
the improvement of the morals of the neighborhood in which he
resides."
