Mother: Mary GOOKIN |
Pr. Anne Co DB 2: 79 Aug 1711 calls him "son and heir of Capt Wm
Moseley decd".
In DB1: 225 will he names his children for the first time in
this order: first Mary, then Wm, then Richard, and finally
Elizabeth. So I compiled them in that order. In 1691 he gave
Mary land in Norfolk Co VA DB 5: 144, (p.299 Blankenship book).
Va Patent book 8: 64 of 21 Apr 1690 says Wm Moseley Jr got
patent of Richard Poole's adj. Geo Poole etc by virtue of having
married Poole's sole heiress.
SOBERING Essex Co. Moseleys: p.262 of Thos. B. Moseley Vol 2
says in 1678
Richard Poole was involved in document saying "427 acres which I
lately purchased from Capt. Wm Moseley who had moved from Lower
Norfolk to Old Rappahannock County."
Children: The will says Mary was born to 1st wife Blandina, and
it gives mother's effects to Richard strongly hints he also from
Blandina as 2nd wife was alive and using her effects. Also D Bk
2: 184-6, Dec 1713 says Blandina bore 2 sons and 1 dtr and
states that Wm was older than Richard.
His widow Mary, (not their daughter Mary) married Adam
Thorowgood.
Pr. Anne Abstracts: Anne E. Maling, Princess Anne County,
Virginia Land and Probate Records Abstracted from Deed Books One
to Eighteen 1691-1783 (Bowie, MD: Heritage Books, 1995), page
62: 4DB541 5 Jun 1734: Depositions of Edward Moseley (73)[#705],
John Moseley (64) [#703], and Margaret Sayer (59) [#6456} that
Thomas Walke [#5060], merchant who came from Barbados married
Mary [#506] daughter of Anthony Lawson [#6452] and had three
children - Thomas, Anthony [#5147], and Mary.
Princess Anne Deed Bk. uses Capt. 1714 deed (Norfolk Deed Bk
10:306) from Blandina to mariner Richard Moseley of Princess
Anne Co.: land at Lamberts Point.
His will 27 Mar 1699, 01 Jul 1699. 1 DB 225. Legatees: Malachy,
son of William Harper and Elizabeth his wife. Florents, son of
James Porter, minister and Mary his wife, and godson to "my
beloved deceased wife Blandina; daughter Mary Moseley; daughter
Elizabeth Moseley; son William Moseley; son Richard Moseley; my
2 fathers-in-law Col. Anthony Lawson and
Major Francis Sayer (in modern language, his stepfather Lawson
and father-in-law Sayer); brother Edward Moseley; brother John
Moseley; sister Margaret Thoroughgood; sister Elizabeth Lawson;
Mr. Josias Mackie (?Presbyterian minister of Norfolk & ?Princess
Anne Co: see Norfolk Co Book 9: p.540, Mackie's 1716 will, Col
Ed Mosly coexec); the children of my brother Walke Moseley and
his wife Mary. [is Walke and wife, Mary Lawson parents of
#5147 Anthony Walke, Mary being the stepsister or other step kin
of Wm1Wm2Wm3 by his mother's first marriage before his mother,
Mary Gookin married a Moseley]
Adventurers of Purse and Person 1607-1625, 3rd ed. 1987 revised
and edited by Virginia M. Meyer and John Frederick Dorman:
The original document explains WHY so much emphasis on brother
Walke--Wm3 was Executor and had assets of brother Walke in his
possession and says in will that Wm3 is in
failing health and worried that brother Walke's assets lost if
Wm3 didn't emphasize protecting them. There was no Walke
Moseley!
Abstract book of the will is in ERROR in naming widow as
"Elizabeth", because his widow "Mary" is correctly named in
original will.
!SOURCES: Blankenship, pages 297-317; Combs, pages 1-26; Walter

Princess Anne Co VA court Min Bk 1: 403 on Jan 7, 1704/5 court
preparing to give their portions now to two? Children of Capt Wm
Moseley, dec'd, so age 18 or 20.
CHILDREN: His will in Pr Anne D B 1:225 mentions that Mary was
child of his 1st wife blandina , and Pr Anne DB 2 : 184-6 of 7-8
dec 1713 Richd Moseley selling land mentions that his mother
Blandina had 2 sons, 1 dtr: Wm older son and Richard younger
son. Wm got maternal grandpa Richd Pooles land by primogeniture
but sold it to Richard by deed in Pr Anne County. THERE IS
NOTHING IN P. 184-6 that might justify Mrs. Walter's chart
citing it next to an asserted marriage of dtr Mary to Benj
Moseley. Mary is not even named on p.
184-6, just "daughter"."
