He married twice. He married Eliza Evans before 1806.(95) He
married Fannie Taylor Garland 22 Jan 1818.(96) Fannie was born 4
Oct 1791 in Hanover Co, VA.(97) Fannie was the daughter of John
Garland and Nancy (Garland). Fannie died of yellow fever 17 Sept
1853 in Mobile, AL, at 61 years of age.(98) She died of yellow
fever.
In the 1820 Census, George was listed as a head of household in
Powhatan Co, VA.(99) He and his wife were age 26-44, with a boy
and two girls 10-14 and three boys and a girl under age 10. Ten
persons were engaged in agriculture; there were sixteen slaves
in the household.
George Markham and Eliza Evans had the following children:
i. George Evans4 Markham was born 24 Feb 1806.
ii. Mary Sterling Markham was born 16 Aug 1807.(100) Mary died
21 May 1826 at 18 years of age.(101)
iii. Ann Maria Markham was born 1 April 1809.(102) Ann died 13
March 1832 in Petersburg, Dinwiddie Co, VA, at 22 years of
age.(103) She married John Myrick 1 Aug 1830 in Amherst Co,
VA.(104)
iv. James Bernard Markham was born 15 Oct 1810.
v. Charles Nathaniel Markham was born Jan 1813.(105)
vi. Devereux Jarratt Markham was born Dec 1813.(106) Devereux
died 6 Jan 1841 in Yazoo Co, MS, at 27 years of age.(107) He
drowned near the town of Benton.
George Markham and Fannie Taylor Garland had the following
children:
vii. Francis Elizabeth Markham(108) was born after 1815.
viii. John Garland Markham was born 23 Nov 1819.
ix. Ann Crawley Markham was born 28 Dec 1821.(109) Ann died of
yellow fever 16 Sept 1853 at 31 years of age.(110) She married
James B. Green 21 Aug 1839.(111)
x. William Harris Markham(112) was born 24 Aug 1823.(113)
William died 1823 at less than one year of age.
xi. William Harris Markham was born 12 Oct 1826.
xii. Martha Louisa Markham was born 22 Feb 1828.(114) Martha
died 17 Sept 1865 near Huntsville in Walker Co, TX, at 37 years
of age.(115) She married Dr. S. Carr 14 Aug 1851 in Marion,
AL.(116)
xiii. Mary Jane Markham was born 17 Nov 1828.(117) She married
Dr. George S. Bryant in Amherst Co, VA.(118) At the time of his
death he was superintendent of the Lexington, Kentucky, Lunatic
Asylum. She resided in Leesburg, Lake Co, FL in 1898.(119)
xiv. Robert Armenius Markham was born 1 Nov 1830.(120) Robert
died 19 Dec 1858 in Sumter Co, AL, at 28 years of age.(121) He
married Eliza Pharis 31 May 1855.(122)
