COLONIAL & REV. FAMILIES IN NC: "Henry Hodges dies in 1802, (son of Richard and grandson of Robert of Bertie) married Mary. Their children (from Book P. Deeds of Pitt Co., NC page 289, and from family records) were, viz.
(1) William Hodges was presumably deceased in. or prior to 1808 and had sons: (a) Seth, (b) Lanier. See later some land records.
(2) James Hodges married Charity Judkins, and had issue, (q.v.)
(3) Henry Hodges Jr. (No further record)
(4) Sarah Hodges married ? Williams. (Her father deeded land to Godfrey Williams "for love and affection". He may have been Sarah's husband or her son)
(5) Rachel Hodges married ? Cherry, (who may have been named Charles).
(6) Richard Hodges died in Beaufort Co., NC prior to May Term of Court 1827. He married first Annie Page 229 Peakins and second Rebecca ? who died in Beaufort Co., NC prior to Dec. Term of Court 1844 Beaufort Co., NC. They had issue, (q.v.)
(7) Elizabeth Hodges,
(8) Rhoda Hodges married ? Ruff.


Daniel Perkins executor et al to Henry Hodges (deed) June 1793. (See Book 6 page 488, Office of Reg. of Deeds Beaufort Co., NC) The Perkins will (which the author has not seen) might show a relationship in someway to Hodges."


COLONIAL & REV. FAMILIES OF NC: "Following are some other copies (made by the author) from original deeds in possession of Mr. Rosco Gorham aforesaid: State of North Carolina. No. 272 To all to whom these present shall come, greeting. Knowye, that we, for and in consideration of the sum of fifty shillings for every Hundred hereby granted, paid into our treasury by Henry Hodges and Matthew Hodges have given and granted, and by these present do give and grant unto the said Henry Hodges and Matthew Hodges a tract of land containing Six Hundred and Fifty acres lying and being in the County of Pitt, on the north side of Tar River and east side of Gum Swamp beginning at a pine on the south side of the Cypress Branch and in Stuart's line thence with his south ten degrees east twenty-two....The 21st day of october in the seventh year of Independence and in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred and eighty two. Signed: Alexander Martin (govenor....) Enrolled in Registers Office Pitt Co. Book G. page 80. Nov. 20, 1782 John Simpson, Register."


COLONIAL & REV. FAMILIES OF NC: Page 230 Cont'd. "Mr. Rosco Gorham (aforesaid) also has in his possession a grant from the state of NC to "Richard Hodges....a tract of land containing one hundred and fifty acres, lying and being in the County of Beaufort on the north side of Moys beaverdam and east side of gum swamp, betinning at a stake Col, James Bonner's line and at the place where Brown's patent line crosses the same twenty-three poles from Benjamin Hodges gum corner on the gum swamp running Bonner's Patent line south, twenty east three hundred and fifty eight poles to Snoad's line, then his line north nineteen east seventy-six poles to his corner, then....to a pine Matthew and Henry Hodges corner then north....to (torn) Hodges corner....to Bonner's....exclusive of fifty acres of land already granted to Charles Cherry. Entered the 30th day Sept. 1799. Signed (23rd Nov. 1799) by Benjamin Williams, (Govenor)


Another deed owned by Rosco Gorham: "This indenture made this 2nd day of April (torn) between Henry Hodges Sr. of the one part and his son Richard Hodges of the other part, both of the County of Pitt and state of NC Witnesseth that the said Henry Hodges for and in consideration of the love and natural affection which he hath and beareth unto his son Richard Hodges....hath given, granted....tract....of land situated in Beaufort County on the north side of Moyes Beaver Dam Swamp....

"The Bible record of Austin Peay & Mildred Turner was published in the Fort Worth Gen. Soc. Bulletin, vol 10. This Austin Peay came from King William Co. VA after 1779; the father of Austin Peay of Fairfield SC came from the same area. Nicholas Peay, father of Austin of SC, was born in 1762, Hanover Co. VA, son of George Peay, who was born in 1734. The Austin who md Mildred Turner was born in 1741, so he could be George's brother."
