Nicholas and Peter LeHeup From: Russell Layhew, Date: 19 Sep
2002: "Seeking land records for Nicholas Leheup, sometimes found
spelled Lahugh and Lehew. In PETER LEHEW OF FRONT ROYAL, VA AND
SOME OF HIS DESC., pub 1966 by Edith Foster, she states the
earliest records found for Nicholas Lahugh are 1688 in
Northumberland County, VA....what records can this be? I find
Nicholas' probate record in 1719 in Northumberland County, with
Peter and relict Mary Lehugh Administrators. Peter is on Cedar
Run early 1720's...Can anyone help me?? Are there comprehensive
lists of Huguenots who migrated prior to 1688??? Please contact
me at [email protected] Thanks, Russ Layhew
Nicolas LeHugh is from a small town in Eastern France, near the
German/Austrian border.
1. Nicholas LeHugh was born about 1670 in France. He died in
1718 in Northumberland, Virginia. First appears in
Northumberland County, Virginia, records as early as 1688 and up
until Feb 1719 when his son Peter and his wife Mary of Wicomico
Parish appeared in court to swear that Nicholas had died without
leaving a will and were appointed administrators of the estate.
Nicholas' estate seems to have consisted of an 80-acre farm and
considerable personal property. A 1722 record shows Mary, widow
of Nicholas, making a declaration regarding the release of her
dower rights to the land, which she and Peter, of "Wiccocomoco"
Parish in Northumberland County, sold to John Jordan. The
inventory of Nicholas' personal property is recorded in
Northumberland County Record Book for 1718-1726 and includes 3
slaves, plus the infant of one of them.

their heirs & Executors Jointly and Separately to the Justice(s)

see: pr ann court Minute Bk 2: 246 of may 1717 which would mean

The gifts of feb 1703/4 probably were when their mother died,
not because the kids were of age."
