Will of Daniel Burford Will Book 3, page 48, Amherst Co, VA:
"In the name of God Amen I Daniel Burford of the County of
Amherst and Parish of Lexinton (sic), being aged and
infirm....it is my will and desire: Viz: I lend to my daughter
Virginia Taylor during her natural life two hundred and fifty
acres of Land with the Plantation and House and one Negro boy
named Jack and after her death the said two hundred and fifty
acres and at her Deceas or Remoovall from the said land I give
to her natural son, John Floyd Burford to him and his heirs
forever and the Negro Boy Jack to be sold and the money equally
divided amongst all her children.
Item. I give to my Grand Son John Floyd Burford natural son of
my daughter Virginia Taylor my negro boy named Shepherd and all
my wearing appearal to him and his heirs forever.
Item. I give to my Grand Daughter Mourning Burford Stewart my
Three Negroes Phillis, Nancy, and Dick and all their increase to
her and her heirs forever.
Item. The rest and residue of my Estate Real and Personal I give
to be Equally divided between my said Grand Daughter Mourning
Burford Stewart and my son John Burford and Daniel Burford and
my Daughter Milley Crews to them and theirs forever.
Item. I give to my daughter Frances Goodwin five Pounds Cash.
Item. I give to my daughter Elizabeth Goodwin five Pounds Cash.
Lastly, I nominate and appoint my son John Burford and my son
Daniel Burford, John Stewart Executors to this my Last Will and
Testament. In witness whereof I have set my hand and afixt my
seal this first Day of May AD One Thousand and seven hundred and
eighty seven.

This Last Will and Testament of Daniel Burford Deced was this
Day presented in Court by John Stewart one of the Executors
therein Named and proved by the oath of the Witnesses thereto,
and the said Executor with John Cabell his Security Entered into
and acknowledged Bond in the Penalty of Two Thousand Pounds,
took the Oath Required by Law and Ordered to be Recorded."
