The John Purl (ca 1740/1760) in Lancaster Co. PA, Rev War vet in 1785, is possbily this John and father of these children.

There is a family tradition that a Purl man married a Scotswoman, a sister of a Lord Cunningham of Scotland about 1760 and had these children: John Cunningham Purl, Thomas Purl, James Purl, Katherine Purl, Hezekiah Purl. (if Katerine is the one who m. McAtee, then she is prob. the daughter of Charles Perrill of Alegany Co. MD)

"According to the Pennsylvania Archives Vol. B, there was a John Purl who served as a private in the Revolutionary War, Lancaster Co. Militia, notated Aug 17, 1785. A John Purl is found in 1820 census in Donegal, Westmoreland Co. PA; and another John in Pittsburg in Allegheny Co. Our John Purl may have been one of these but we have no documentation to identify - he was in the general area at the time."

In the 1810 census there is a Daniel Purl in Prince Georges Co. MD, another Daniel in Westmoreland Co. PA and Jacob Purl in Chester Co. PA.

Early immigrants to VA included Francis Pearle who arrived in 1635; Andrew Pearle by 1653 in Nansemond Co. and William Pearle in Accomack Co by 1663. In Richmond Co. 1716 inv of est of Richard Pearl, Jr; In King George, an Inv. of Richard Pearle in 1725. Comfort Pearl's will was proved in 1769 in Accomack Co. and William Pearle's in 1785 in Fauquier Co.

In Maryland in 1682 James Pearle married Mary Glover in Somerset Co. In 1684 in Calvert Co. MD, Elizabeth Pearl, Test. to will of George Acheson; in 1687 in Kent Co. Elizabeth Pearle, Test. to will of Thomas Seward. James Pearle's will proved 1686 had a bequest to brother John Pearle if he comes to province within three years. MD resident William Pearle in his 1707 will left his land to the poor of the Parish.

By 1783 a Samuel and a William Pearl received land grants in what is now Jefferson Co. KY and William Pearle received land in Lincoln Co. KY.
