There was a son, John Lee, who evidently did not marry as he
left his estate to his brothers and sisters. John Lee's will
proved if Charlotte Co. Va. 1/6/1783. In it John mentions
sisters Sarah Penn and Mary Waldon. So it is evident Sarah did
marry a Penn and indicates George Penn's first wife was Sarah
Lee.
George Penn's only sister, Frances Penn married Ambrose Lee,
oldest son of William and Rachel Lea. .....Family tradition
says that George Penn did marry the Lee sisters and dates and
places and family connections fit perfectly. This is stated in
Albert E. Casey's book 'Amite Co., Miss., Vol 111, Lea family of
K & Q Co. VA, Caswell Co. NC, and Amite Co. MS. This is also
stated in 'The Bennets of VA & NC (main reference "Finding your
forefathers in America" by Archibald F. Bennett) This belief is
held by at least two other people who have studied the Penn and
Lee lines rather thoroughly with whom I've had correspondence. -
Mrs. J. F. Murphy of St. Louis 1975 Note; The new Centennial DAR
index Sarah and Mary Lee to this George Penn and no longer gives
Elizabeth Douglas as his wife.
