William Newton was the second son and the only child who remained in Greenwood. His home was on the east side of Spring Street and when the house was dismantled in 1967, a two-story log cabin was found as the core of the house. That cabin was acquired by the Greenwood County Historical Society. It may have been built by Andrew Logan the original settler. They had 11 children to live to maturity.

Notes

THOMAS SCRUGGS, Gentleman, son of Thomas Scruggs, married twice; he had issue by his first wife:

Thomas Scruggs after the death of his first wife, and about the year 1793-94, went to Scott County, Kentucky, with his five grown children and settled them there (with the exception of his son Gross, who returned to Virginia).

He gave to each adjoining tracts of land near "Lindsay Station" about twelve miles from the city of Frankfort, and known to this day as the "Old Scruggs' Place" gave in addition to his eldest son, William, two valueale slaves, man and wife, named Kiah and Joan, who had been among his own trusted servants and who were said to possess unusual sagacity, common sense and loyalty. These slaves, or their increase, continued in the family some time after the close of the Civil War.

Thomas Scruggs returned from Kentucky to Virginia prior to 1798 and was married there to Jane Scott, the daughter of Walter Scott of Bedford County, by whom he had issue:
