Silas SIMMONS

ABT 1750 - 1795

ID Number: I53857

  • RESIDENCE: St. James' Goose Creek Parish, Charleston Dist. SC
  • BIRTH: ABT 1750
  • DEATH: 1795
  • RESOURCES: See: notes [S1938]
Father: (RESEARCH QUERY LA & MS) SIMMONS

Family 1 : Selah HARRELL
  1. +Esther SIMMONS

Notes

His will dated 27 Feb 1795, probated 5 Oct 1795. "The wording of his will leads us to believe that Celia and Silas had 2 daughters, both of whom married men named Nettles. One of those daughters was Esther. The other predeceased Silas, so her name does not appear in the will."

Don't have the copy of that will of Silas Simmons but it did name Silah as his wife in documents. A brief of those wills also named his, Silas Simmons, son-in-law: Joshua Nettles. Also two others named to get after wife all property: Hester Nettles and George Nettles (possible children of Joshua thus grand to Silas by one of his daughters) (Just noted that Silas & Selah had daughter named Hester so assume she wed Joshua Nettles and thus Hester (dau) and George (son), but will need additional input to verify as fact)

It not clear he died in SC; as since his spouse family (and possibly his) lived in that area; it possible he made a will out in Charleston area and thus it acted on when he passed. Silas (as son-in-law) was named in Jacob will as daughters Silah and Ann who both named as Simmons (all daughters in will are named by their married name). Only able to link Silah to Silas because he named in Jacob and found his, Silas, on file naming her, Silah, in it. Would need more time to do good search of Simmons in Charleston as there are several dozen in index. got lucky on Silas as had his name from Jacob papers....Email me at: [email protected]

Both wills of Jacob and Silas were proved by Charles Lining, Esquire O.C.T.D.
