PETER CULPEPER of Bletchenden

1389 - 1449

ID Number: I75720

  • RESIDENCE: Headcorn, ENG
  • BIRTH: 1389
  • DEATH: 1449
  • RESOURCES: See: [S2887]
Father: JOHN CULPEPER of Oxen Hoath, Knt.
Mother: CATHERINE CHARLES

Notes

"The Colepeper of Aylesford pedigree states that Peter was "Mentioned 1399, and 1411 seized of the Manors of Blechenden (in Headcorn) and Bressyng [location unknown], according to an undated Chancery Proceeding".

A signifcant amount of remodeling was done circa 1450 in the church of Headcorn, and in this period, the Culpeper arms were placed over the west doorway and on a tomb in the south wall just outside the Lady Chapel. The arms are described as "On a silver field a red engrailed bend with a crescent (on one of the shields) for cadency (second son)". Most likely, the arms and tomb are that of Peter Culpeper, who appears to have been either the second or third son of Sir John Culpeper of Oxenhoath."

Marriage* s 1416 Groom; Bride: Joane (?)
Son s 1420 Richard Culpeper of East Farleigh "Grants lands lately belonging to Peter his father, 1449." per Colepeper of Aylesford pedigree.
Son s 1422 Ralph Culpeper of East Farleigh "Grants manor of Bressyng in 1446" per Colepeper of Aylesford pedigree

Isaac LEWIS Jr.

13 Mar 1802 - ____

ID Number: I92240

  • RESIDENCE: VA and 1804 Madison and Shelby Cos. KY
  • BIRTH: 13 Mar 1802, Virginia
  • RESOURCES: See: notes Bio
Father: Isaac LEWIS Sr.
Mother: Nancy OVERFIELD

Family 1 : Mahala B. RUCKER

Notes

#10189: Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th
ed., 1887, Shelby Co. ISAAC LEWIS, Sr., born in Virginia, March 13, 1802,
is a son of Isaac and Nancy (Overfield) Lewis, natives of Virginia. He came
to Kentucky with his parents in 1804 and settled in Madison County. He
married, March 24, 1824, Mahala Rucker, of Shelby County, a daughter of Joshua Rucker. Having no children of their own they took Mary J. Robinson, at the age of fourteen months, and raised her. She married, and had one child, Lulu Mitchell, and when Lulu was one year old Mr. and Mrs. Lewis took her, reared her, and gave her a fine education at Shelbyville select schools and at Finchville. She is quite an accomplished lady, and September 29, 1875, married Richard Sandusky, of Shelby County, a son of Jacob and Nancy (Blaydes) Sandusky. Three children were born to them: Mary S., Ivan Earl and Maggie L. Mr. Lewis is well known throughout the county, and every one calls him Uncle Isaac. He was very successful at farming as long as he engaged in that occupation, but when the war closed he said the negroes
were free and so was he, and from that day he never worked. He has been a great help to the community in which he has lived, ever ready to render a neighbor financial aid, and now has many friends, no enemies, and is universally esteemed. He makes his homes with Mr. and Mrs. Sandusky, who esteem him as a father. He is a member of the Baptist Church.
