Emma Maria Lucas was probably married before. Evidence for this is that her father is called James White. On Emma and George' marriage certificated, Emma's condition is listed as Widow. Witnesses are Frederick John Johnston and Eliza Johnston. George is 22 and Emma is 21. Monumental insciption (at Mount Noddy, East Grinstead) reads: IN EVER LOVING MEMORY OF OUR DARLING DAUGHTER MINNIE MURIEL CECILIA HOAD WHO PASSED AWAY 20TH(?) OCTOBER 1918 AGED 16 YEARS, ALSO EMMA MARIE HOAD, HER MOTHER WHO FELL ASLEEP 10TH DECEMBER 1932 AGED 68 YEARS. 'I HEARD THE VOICE OF JESUS SAY, COME UNTO ME AND REST' In December 1883, there was a marriage between Emma Maria White and Henry William Lucas. Emma and George Hoad marry December 1885. Henry Lucas dies in 1884 - death registered in September index. District East Grinstead, vol 2b, page 86. He was 21.

30. James ALDERTON , son of Frederick ALDERTON and Eliza BEECHING, was born on 4 April 1869 in Foundry Lane, Lewes, Sussex. Lewes, 2b, 162, June. James was a Sergeant 2419 - East Kent Regiment 1st Battalion "The Buffs". When he died, described as Pensioned Colour Sergeant in the Royal Lancaster Regiment and an Electrician's Labourer. He married Laura Louisa TURNER on 4 April 1894 in Jullundur, India. He died on 31 August 1923 in Dartford, Kent. Dartford, 2a, 582, Sept - no other James Alderton death. registered for around the same time. Have checked from 1918 to. 1931. His wife was present at the death.

 

1861 - living at Foundry Lane, Lewes This is the only James (son) and Frederick (Head) on census for 1871. Mistranscribed as Alderta. Living at Fuller's Yard, Lewes. 1881 census - living at 15 Market Street, Lewes 1891 census - no record, in India? Pensioned from India to East Grinstead in 1907, probably to 14 West Street, East Grinstead. Edward (son) birth cert also shows "Pensioned Sergeant Major, Lucknow, Volunteer Rifles" Dorothy (daughter) marriage cert shows occupation as Laborer at Munition Works, presumably near Crayford in Kent as his daughter had that address on the cert. 1923 - living at 35 Whitehill Road, Crayford in Kent.

 

31. Laura Louisa TURNER , daughter of John TURNER, was born in 1870 in India. She was baptised in TO RESEARCH. She died in 1952 in Australia. She was buried in TO RESEARCH.

 

Her parents may have been killed in the Sepoy uprising. Had a brother called John. Emigrated to Australia with Robert when he was 14.
