MARTHA WILKES LANGSTON

"Before 1850 Martha and William (Langston) had moved to Cherokee County, Texas and the only children living at home were Asa and Cynthia. It is unknown how many years they lived in Cherokee County, but early in the 1850s, they were living in Navarro County. There Cynthia M. Langston was married to George Hiram Estes on 01 September 1853. The Estes family lived in the southwest area of Navarro County and attended the Baptist church where William was the pastor. William served as the pastor of two churches, Society Hill Baptist Church in Dresden and the Tehuacana Baptist Church in Freestone County. Both of these churches were members of the Baptist Trinity River Association. In September of 1856, Rev. William Langston and George Estes were delegates to a meeting of the Association held in Anderson, Milam County.

In 1860, Martha and William were living in Stephenville (Erath County), Texas. Living in the same house with them were Cynthia and George H. Estes and their children, Martha E., Hiram C. and Sarah L. Estes. Asa M. Langston and his wife, Martha and one year old daughter, Martha, lived a few families away. Asa Langston and George Estes both listed their occupation as stock farmers. It is also believed they both enlisted in the Civil War while living in Erath County, Texas."

My great grandfather Bill Williams came to what is now Hill County in 1851. My grandfather George Estes moved from Missouri to near Mt. Calm in the early day and married Narcissus Williams (Aunt Ciss) about 1869. My mother was Seytha (sic) Estes. She and my father William F. Francis were married in Eastland County, Texas, in 1892. My mother was a cousin to Green, Sanders and Lish Estes. Le Williams was my mother's uncle.

My grandmother, Narcissus Williams Estes. Grandfather George Estes died in 1880 and my grandmother married Ed Packwood about 1882 in Ranger, Texas. The Packwood family reunion will be held the 1st Sunday in August at Hale Center, Texas.

Something I forget. My mother was born 1875 at a two story house where your (Dan Williams) mother, Mrs. Tant Williams lives where she was a girl before she married. Four of her older cousins Green, Sanders, Lish and Aaron (Tobe's boy). Three of them were brothers, and one cousin, don't know which were brothers, but am sure 3 brothers were sons of Aaron who was killed in the Civil War. These 4 left Hill County, went to Big Bend Country. After the family moved to Eastland County, 2 of the cousins visited them. My mother was sure that Billy Sol Estes was a descendant of 1 of them. I met a man named Estes at Fort Sumner, New Mexico, a grandson. But he didn't know his grandfather's name.

When the Cherokee Strip was opened in Oklahoma, Ty, a son of 1 of the men that went to the Big Bend Country homesteaded land near where the town of Fort Supply is now. He visited us in Mangum, Oklahoma in 1910, don't remember his first name.

Guess you noticed Nathan Middleton and Nancy Williams married in 1850. Two of their sons or grandsons homesteaded near Duke, Oklahoma, 15 miles west of Altus about 1895. A granddaughter in Altus. Don't know where her grandfather came from. Uncle Lee Williams at 14 was the youngest Williams in the Civil War.
