WILLIAM OR J.M. THOMAS was born abt. 1802 in VA per 1850 census, other census state Ohio-not found on 1880 IL census.  He married LOUISA/LOVISA (LOVISY) COLE September 09, 1834 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, daughter of JOHN COLE and ELIZABETH COLE.  She was born abt. 1814 in Ohio-per 1850 census-not found on 1880 IL census.  On 1850 census Pike County, Illinois, Township 4, Range 4W, p. 160, household 388-401.

FAMILY OF JACOB ZELLINGER THOMAS AND SARAH ELIZABETH WELTY

JACOB ZELLINGER THOMAS was born September 1836 in Ohio-Served in the 50th Illinois US Infantry- filed CW pension there 1910, and died February 20, 1910 in Cloud County, Kansas.  He married SARAH ELIZABETH WELTY October 05, 1865 in Adams County, Illinois-per IL statewide online index, daughter of DANIEL WELTY and HANNAH.  She was born March 13, 1849 in Missouri -  father born Missouri, mother b. Louisiana, and died January 24, 1935 in Cloud County, Kansas.

Obituary

Jacob Zulinger Thomas was born near Columbus, O. Sept. 23, 1839, moved with his parents when four years old to Pike Co., Ill., where he lived until 1861.  He enlisted in the 50th Illinois Infantry, serving over four years and four months.  He was married, 1866 to Miss Sarah E. Welty.  To Them were born eleven children, nine girls and two boys, all of whom survive, excepting the oldest, who died in the Philippine Islands.  He has been in the community for a number of years and was a member of the G.A.R., whose members followed him to his "long house."  He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1908.  Died Feb. 24, 1910.  Age 70 yr. 5 mo. 1 day.   On 1900 Solomon township, Cloud County, Kansas Census - SD5; ED26, sheet 16A, page 183.

Mrs. Sarah E. Thomas

Sarah E. Thomas, daughter of Daniel and Hannah Welty was born on March 13, 1849, near Barry, Pike County, Illinois, and departed this life January 24th, 1935, aged 85 years, 10 months, and 11 days.

She was married in 1865, at the close of the Civil War to Jacob Z. Thomas, a Civil War Veteran.  To this union were born 11 children, 9 girls and 2 boys.  all but two are living.  A daughter, Mrs. Eva House, Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a son W. H. died in the Philippines during the Spanish American War.

The living are Mrs. Levi Davidson, Glasco, Kansas; Mrs. Mary Jones, Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Lydia Jenson, Winona, Missouri; Mrs. Rosa Lemonds, New Elmo, Kansas; Mrs. Susie Thomas, Morgansville, Kansas; Mrs. Jerry Johnson, Glasco, Kansas; Mrs. Jessie Kerby, Grenada, Colorado; Jake Thomas, Harrisburg, Oregon; Mrs. Luke Holmes, Cheyenne, Wyoming; also 50 grandchildren, and 52 great-grandchildren.

The husband died February, 1910, and Mrs. Thomas has made her home among her children since that time, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Levi Davidson who cared for her tenderly during her last illness.

The greatest tribute that could be given anyone was given by her children who said: "She Was A Real Mother."

No, not cold beneath the grasses, Not, close walled within the tomb;

Rather, in my Father's Mansions,   Living, in another Room.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jacob Thomas were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Levi Davidson, Saturday afternoon, at 2:00 Rev. C. D. Gambriell in charge.  Interment in Glasco Cemetery.
