The Main Sarsfield Family Trees,  referred to on Page 1, are essentially the product of Norman's long-term work and are based on an original tree believed to have been drawn up in 1777 by the English College of Heralds for a family member probably living in France.  The Trees have been greatly expanded by Norman using records and information from the following sources:

a)  Burke's Peerage.

b)  Burke's Irish Landed Gentry.

c)
Dr. Richard Caulfield's publications in the Cork Historical and
Archaeological Society Journal in the 1890s.

d)   Research over 30 years, which includes research in the British Library,
numerous contacts around the world and ongoing contact with the current
joint heads of the main family.

e)
A British Genealogical Office investigation in the 1970s.

f)   Piers Wachope's excellent biography of Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan,

'Patrick Sarsfield and the Williamite War', published by the Irish
Academic Press.  (ISBN 0-7165-2476-7 in hard-cover and 0-7165-2496-1 in
      paper-back).

Most people with a Sarsfield connection somewhere in their own Family Tree hope for, and some assume, a link with Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan, or the Kilmallock Sarsfield Family.  In the case of the former, there are no direct descendants as Patrick's only son died without issue.  In the latter case the descendant lines are well documented, particularly in the male line.

However, it should be noted that from about the middle of the 17th century there were already other Sarsfield families in Ireland, many of much more humble backgrounds, our own included, and their locations and occupations were very diverse.  It is not yet known if, or in what way, they are connected to the two Main Family Trees.  However, we have a number of other Family Trees kindly given by descendants, some of which have been linked back to the Main Trees, and we would welcome more.  We would also welcome any comments and suggestions about our pages.
