2. Joseph CLARKE Jr. (Joseph ) was born 11 Feb 1642 in Newport, Newport Co., Rhode Island. He died 11 Jan 1726/1727 in Westerly, Kings Co., Rhode Island.

    His will was made October 5, 1725, and proved February 27, 1726/7. the amount of his inventory being 31:18:8. He left 5 each to his daughters, Judity Maxon and Susanna Babcock, and to his daughter Bethiah Hiscox, and his son Thomas Clarke, he left one shilling each saying specifically about his son that he had already received his share.
    He married at Westerly, Nov. 16, 1664, Bethiah Hubbard. When he was left a widower, he took a second wife, Hannah Weeden, daughter of William Weeden, and widow of Joseph Clarke's brother, William, who died Sept 30, 1683, and also widow of Thomas Peckham. She died March 3, 1723.

    Joseph Clarke, Jr.'s house was about two miles west of the Hopkinton Cemetery on the Pawcatuck. Like his father he became Pastor of the Church, but proved to be as scrappy as his brother-in-law Robert Burdick and his uncle Toby Saunders.

  DeForest: Joseph Clarke, born 11 Feb. 1642, Newport, RI; died 11 Jan. 1726/7, Westerly, RI. His will was dated 5 Oct. 1725 and proved 27 Feb. 1727. The amount of inventory was 31 pounds, 18 shillings, 8 pence. Joseph moved from to Westerly before 1669, as he was Westerly town clerk from 1669-1700. He served as a deputy to the General Assembly 1698, 1700, 1702-4, 1706, 1708.

  NEHGR, v153: Joseph Clark Jr.; Tobias Saunders and Robert Berdick were among the first settlers of Westerly and were the only ones who did not fail. Other details of early Westerly recounted.   
   C.M. Babcock: Joseph Clarke Jr., born 11 Feb. 1642; died 11 Jan. 1727. Lived at Westerly where he was town clerk, 1699-1700. Married Bethia Hubbard, daughter of Samuel and Tacy (Cooper) Hubbard.   Witter Family: Joseph Clarke Jr., born 11 Feb. 1542/3 or 7 April 1647/3, Newport or Westerly. Died 11 Jan 1727, Newport or Westerly. Married Bethia Hubbard 16 Nov. 1664. Took family to Westerly and was freeman there 1668. Took family back to Newport in 1675 in fear of King Philip's War. He was seized in his house by Connecticut men to Hartford, Conn., in retaliation for a Rhode Island man buying land in Connecticut and taking Rhode Island oath. He was imprisoned for six weeks and paid a fine, which was reimbused by R.I. Job Babcock also was seized in this border dispute. He marred (2) Hannah Weeden, the widow of his brother William.

Joseph also married (2) Bethiah HUBBARD, daughter of Samuel HUBBARD and Tasy COOPER, on 16 Nov 1664 in Westerly, Kings Co., Rhode Island. Bethiah was born 19 Dec 1646 in Springfield, Hampden Co., Massachusetts. She died 17 Apr 1707 in Westerly, Kings Co., Rhode Island.

Edward was the son of Joshua Bliven, shipmaster. Isabella was the daughter of

they had a daughter Zilpha.
