Eric Kingman Eastwood referenced the Manson-Hayward manuscript as, apparently, the principal source of his report on the origin of the Worden family in America. He said, "Peter Worden is said to have come from England in the Anne, arriving at Plymouth in 1623." The full list of passengers for this voyage is recorded in Planters of the Commonwealth, and does not include any Worden name.

Peter I did not come to America in 1623. There are documents in England showing Peter to be there in 1625, 1630, and 1636. We do not know his whereabouts between 1636 and the writing of his will in America in 1638.

It has been reported that Mrs. Ellen (Elinor) Newton arrived in America on the Anne in 1623 and that she was the daughter of Peter Worden Sr. who arrived with her. We know (see above note) that Peter did not arrive in America until after 1636. We know also, from documents in England, that his wife, Margaret, died in 1612, daughter Bridget died in 1628 and daughter Elizabeth died in 1635. There is no record of any other children except Peter II. Peter I's will in 1638 had provisions for his only son Peter II and grandson John Lewis. His only other living grandson, Robert Swansey, was apparently provided for by his father, Hugh Swansey, in England. See pages 102, 454, 838 and 887 in Wordens Past (WFA newsletter).

16113. Margaret GRICE was born about 1566/1571 in England. She died about 1612 in England.

Peter I did not marry Anne Farington or Mary___. He married Margaret Grice Wall,
widow of Anthony Wall.  Anthony Wall died on 24 April 1601 and Margaret was still a
widow in 1603.  By 1604 Peter and wife appear in a lease record. In 1607 there is a court
action against Peter and his wife with regard to Margaret’s dower of the inheritance of her
former husband Anthony Wall, deceased.  Therefore they were married between February
of 1603 and March of 1604 (see Wordens Past, page 834 for more on her birth and family).

New London records of 1662 list William age 61 and his wife Agnes as age 63. William became a deputy in 1662. Keeney speedily acquired better land than that in Capt Ann Lane over Nahantick way adjoining the Ferry Farm of Winthrop. He held various positions of trust in the town and was master of a barque, the HOPEWELL, probably engaged in the sugar and molasses trade between New London and the Barbados.
