The surname of Miner originated in England during the reign of King Edward the Third, whose reign continued from 1327 to 1377. When preparing for war with France he took progress through Somersett, and coming to Mendippe Hill, where lived a man by the name of Bullman, whose extraordinary and successful efforts to aid the king in the munitions of war, with one hundred powerful men of volunteers in the service, so pleased the king that he granted him a coat-of-arms, with the name of Henry Miner thereon, in recognition of his loyalty and patriotic devotion to him and his cause.
