(253) Daniel Vick Coleman, the son of
Burwell Vick Coleman and Elizabeth A. Rozier McKlosky Coleman, of Columbus County, NC, was a
manufacturer and farmer. He was born in Columbus County, NC, on 03/24/1859. He moved
to Montgomery County, GA in 1882, and to Tattnall County, GA in 1885. Burwell, his father,
died in 1892 in Tattnall County, GA and his remains were carried back to Columbus County, NC,
where they were buried in the Porter Swamp Baptist church cemetery.

Daniel Vick Coleman married Mattie Hayes,
of South Carolina, 10/12/1887. Mattie (born 04/28/1866
[Bible record, coutesy of Thuren, Barbara McGill, 2008])
was the daughter of A.G. and E.M. Hayes, of Marion county, SC, just across the state line
from Columbus County, NC, the boyhood home of Daniel.

Daniel Vick Coleman was in Brunswick, GA by July 1900 where his last child was born.
He relocated his family again to Plant City, FL

Daniel V. Coleman manufactured naval stores, using his
still in Tattnall county to produce 700 barrels of turpentine and
2,500 barrels of resin annually. He also had an interest in
another plant in Tattnall county producing about 500
barrels of turpentine and 2,000 barrels of resin. He employed
about sixty-five hands, operated 175,000 boxes on his individual
farm and about 125,000 at the farm where he was a partner. He was
engaged in farming in North and South Carolina, and had a
mercantile business in Ohoopee, Tattnall Co, where he and his family
made there home. Most of his turpentine and resin were shipped to
Savannah.
