Descendants of Robert Coleman of Nansemond County Virginia 1684-1930

Chapter 43:  Descendants of Mary Coleman and Noah Martin, of Putnam County, TN

(402) Mary Coleman, was the last child born to Charles Washington 'Wash' Coleman. It is unknown whether she was the child of Lucinda Sims, or not. Mary was born in June of 1856 based on U.S. Census records. She married Noah Martin born 03/1852.  The death of a Noah Martin on 11/11/1915 is recorded in Warren County, Kentucky. [ Deaths in Warren County, Kentucky, 1911-1929, on USGenWeb Warren County, KY web site.] Noah and Mary's family is found in 1880 and 1900 in Putnam County, Tennessee. In 1910 and 20 they are found in Stallard Springs, District 8, of Warren County, Kentucky. Mary is reported in the 1920 U.S. Census to be mother of 11 children with nine living. The author currently knows the names of only six. It is likely two of the other three were born after George and before Frank and one of these survived but moved away before being recorded in the 1900 Census. If we are to believe the reports in the 1910 and 1920 U.S. Census, another two children were born to Mary during that decade, but were not reported in her home in 1920. This seems most unlikely. It may be the 1920 Census taker mistakenly recorded the number alive as 9, when what was meant was that 9 total were born, and two did not survive. But this is simply the author's guess.

Recall from Chapter 16. Descendants of Charles Washington Coleman of Hamilton, and later, Putnam Counties of Tennessee we had Mary Coleman daughter of Charles Washington Coleman:

The births of Warren County in 1913 record a birth of Emily Martin to mother Virgie Martin on 11/13/1913. It may be that Emily did not survive to the time of the 1920 U.S. Census and belonged to the family above. The deaths of Warren County record the death of an Emily Martin on 05/04/1913, just 6 months prior to the birth above, suggesting a possible family connection.
