Deeds involving Nichols and Coleman Families of North Carolina
Deeds for Jno Coleman, John Coleman, Jon. Coleman, Moses Coleman, Nichols Coleman and Phebe Coleman (and a sprinkling of Nichols found in same listings):
John Nichols is said to be from Hertford and Bladen Counties. This was on the birth announcement of his son, Jackson Nichols, born in Bedford County, TN in 1811. The name Coleman then shows up in children's names. I thought perhaps he might have married a Coleman from Bladen.

Speculation is that John Nichols came from Hertford to Bladen, spent a little time there and perhaps married a Coleman girl (second marriage, perhaps) and journeyed on to Bedford County, TN. William Murfree who gave land for the town of Murfreesboro, NC, had a son, Col. Hardy Murfree, who went to the Rutherford/Bedford Counties, TN. Several others from this general area went with him. Lytle named Murfreesboro, TN for his friend Hardy Murfree, who died shortly after moving to Rutherford County. The Nichols settled on the Duck River on land prersumed to belong formerly to Andrew Jackson. Their town was Unionville. The John Nichols who was here in Hertford County had a wife and children listed in the 1800 census, I believe. I had decided that that wife was probably not the Mother of Jackson Nichols, b. 1811 in Bedford Co. TN. So therefore, John must have picked up a wife on the way to TN... or there. I'm not certain it is really the same John Nichols. But since men in a county often served in the Rev. together, and since Hardy Murfree went to Rutherford Co., TN just north of where a John Nichols lived, and at about the same time, I conjecture that they must have known each other in Hertford County, NC.
Maybe Coleman Nichols was a relative and maybe John Nichol's mother was a Coleman.
