Birth: 12 Oct 1650 in New Haven, Connecticut 1
Death: 31 Mar 1717 in Wallingford, Connecticut 2Note:
New Haven County Court Records, Vol I, p 252: John Moss,Jr., along with Ebenezer Clark and Joseph Royce, all of Wallingford, filed a complaint against Winfred Benham, Sr., and Winfred Benham, Jr., her daughter, that Sarah Clark, daughter of said Ebenezer Clark, Elizabeth Lathrop, and John Moss, son of the said John Moss, Jr., were frequently and sorely afflicted in their bodies by the said Benhams, mother and daughter or their apparitions. The accused was Winifred King of Boston who married Joseph Benham of New Haven in 1657. Although the case was dismissed, there appearing nothing material against her, save spectral evidence, Winfred was "searched several times for Tets; they tried the Experiment of casting her into the Water, and after this she was Excommunicated by the minister of Wallingford." Flagg & Related FamiliesNotes for Capt. John Moss:

Note:
John Moss was in New Haven as early as 1645, perhaps earlier, and was
a member of the General Court during several sessions. In 1670 at the
May session he was active in procuring the act of incorporation of
Wallingford, and succeeded on the 12th day of May, 1670, at Hartford.
He was evidently the leading man of the new settlement, and was the
pioneer of the settlers, being on the ground certainly as early as
1667, perambulating the country in that region for the purpose of
settling a village there. (p. 857.) His lot was situated at the
extreme south end of the village, adjoining that of his friends, John
Brockett, who was associated with him in promoting the interest and
advancement of the settlement and Samuel Brown. Failing to settle on
it within the time limited, his title was forfeited, and the committee
to whom such matters were referred, gave it to John Moss, Jr. John
Moss, Sr. died A.D. 1707, aged 103.
Source 11, page 533-534.
John immigrated on the "Hector" in
1637. He died at the age of 103. It is believed he may have
named Wallingford, CT.
Buried in Center Street Cemetery.
John Moss at the late age of 60 married Mary
Peck on 3 Nov 1664. Known as Corporal John Moss, he was one of the
original founders of Wallingford in 1669 and along with Abraham
Doolittle, John Brockett, and Samuel Street was on the first Committee
to manage the town. He was granted 12 acres. John Peck, his
father-in-law, was also granted 8 acres, Abraham Doolittle 12, and Sgt
Samuel Thorpe 8 acres.

The maiden name of John Moss the immigrant's wife. There is no proof that Abigail Charles was her name.
John Moss probably had a wife who was the sister of Mr. Charles, but it is just as possible that Mr. Charles
' wife was the sister of John Moss. In any event, there is no evidence at all that the woman's names was Abigail
(probaby a conjecture based upon the name of their oldest daughter.)
