Lanny Crow and Charlie Wood were best of friends. They both lived near each other at Fairview apartments in the late 1950s. In the 3rd grade, they skipped school together, with Mickey Singleton, and got caught by the police and Lanny and Mickey's mothers on Ash Street near Stoney Creek.
Lanny got sick during the summer of 1965 when he and Charlie were living in the Salem Acres subdivision. He was in a lot of pain, during his last week of life. Finally, his parents took him to Wayne Memorial Hospital on Ash Street. The doctors operated on him for appendicitis. However, Lanny had cancer throughout his abdomen, he never woke up from the operation, and he died in the recovery room that day. His passing shocked everyone in the neighborhood. Lanny's friends were his pallbearers at his funeral.
Lanny was a great friend to all, and he is still missed.
