Former Pikeville Chief Dies
PIKEVILLE -- Ira Dale, 96, chief of police of Pikeville for 50 years died Friday in Wayne Memorial Hospital. He had also served as a Wayne County deputy sheriff and constable.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. from the Shackleford Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Keith Cobb officiating. Burial will be in Pikeville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wayne County sheriff's deputies.
Surviving are three daughters, Miss Rubye Dale of the home, Mrs. Nellie Blow and Mrs. Lillian Thigpen, both of Pikeville; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
