Charlie W. Wood, 85-year-old retired farmer of Route 1, Four Oaks, died Thursday afternoon in Adams and Kinton Nursing Home near Lillington following a lingering illness.
Mr. Wood was born in Johnston County. He was a son of the late Frank and Susan Williams Wood.
He was a member of Pauline Baptist Church and had served as a deacon and trustee.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 Saturday afternoon in Blackmon's Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Puckett and the Rev. Robert Woodson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The body will remain at Overby Funeral Home in Smithfield until it is taken to the church to lie in state for one hour prior to the service.
Surviving are two daughters; Mrs. Nimrod Stephenson of Route 1, Garner, and Mrs. Annie Merle Graham of Hampton, Va.; six sons, Earl, Hersal, and F. P. Wood of Route 1, Four Oaks, Leon Wood of Route 3, Durham, Floyd Wood of Richmond, Va., and Roby Wood of Wilson; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
