Larry Wood's Obituary

Obituary published in The Smithfield Herald, Saturday, May 30, 1891:

Died

On last Thursday the 26th inst. the people of Rome section were very much shocked by the sudden death of Mr. Larry Wood who had been feeble for some weeks, bearing a burden of disease thought to be heart trouble.  He was hoeing in his ground pea farm when he was stricken down by death, holding fast to his hoe and from the best that could be seen did not move (at) all after falling.  He was about seventy-one yeas (years) old, a consistent member of the Primitive Baptist Church, and a true neighbor.  The neighbors are in deep sympathy with the grief stricken ones who are no longer guided rnd (and) advised by this true and aged parent.  It is our humble prayer to-night that the one who from our sight departed, has ascended to the Heavenly throne on high, where his many friends and relatives who have gone before, and long been awaiting his arrival will greet him and very willingly receive him in that peaceful home.

P. E. J.
